Application of Petroleum Jelly

This will help make the scab softer and keep it from drying out, so as to prevent cracking. Eventually, this will speed up the healing beneath the scab and makes it drop off faster.

Numb the Cold Sore Area

Applying ointments and ice make the area numb and help relieve skin from itching, according to the University of California San Diego. This can help you prevent the itch to pick or scratch the healing scab.

A cold sore is highly infectious that is caused by a herpes simplex virus. It is very important to stay home and to keep your distance from the littles ones, the elderly and anybody so as not to compromise the immune system and acquire illness from the infection.

Tips

Constantly wash your hands carefully before and after making contact with the scab.
